Annual holiday party
During Odyssey’s last class of the fall semester, the adult and Odyssey Junior classes join together to celebrate the upcoming holidays. During this celebration, Odyssey Junior students are given the opportunity to read through pieces they have written throughout the semester in front their peers and the Odyssey Course students. There are also games set up for the kids and lots of mingling and socializing for the adults!
Read to a Dog
One of the most popular nights in Odyssey Junior is when the “Read to a Dog” program comes to visit. On these nights, Odyssey Explorers and Odyssey Adventurers have the opportunity to read some of their favorite books aloud to their furry friends. The dogs sit patiently while each student builds his/her confidence in reading aloud. It is equally as enjoyable for the students as it is for the dogs!
Odyssey Junior graduation
On the Wednesday before adult graduation, Odyssey dedicates the night to celebrating all of the students in Odyssey Junior. During this time, the different classrooms (Jumpstart, Explorers, and Adventurers) come together at the UW Space Place and enjoy food, refreshments, and good times with the help of family and friends. Audiences at an Odyssey Junior graduation enjoy hearing children from Jumpstart, Explorers, and Adventurers perform songs, poems, and dances together or read from their own moving writing.
Field trip fun!
During the year, both the Odyssey Adventurers (gr. 6-12) and the Odyssey Explorers (gr. 1-5) participate in a few field trips around Madison. A few popular destinations for the Explorers are the Madison Children’s Museum and UW Geology Museum. The Adventures have also enjoyed trips to places such as the Madison Public Library – Downtown, Chazen Musuem, and the Overture Center.
