Celebrating Craig Werner

This spring, Afro-American Studies Professor Craig Werner is retiring from UW-Madison after 36 years on campus. Fortunately, he plans to continue volunteering with Odyssey for years to come! In honor of his retirement, Craig Werner has asked in lieu of any gifts that donations be made to the Odyssey Project.

Craig has been a key faculty member for the Odyssey Project since its inception in 2003, volunteering his time to introduce adults near the poverty level to empowering works in the humanities. “You really kept it real and taught us the history not in the books!” commented one Odyssey student, and another wrote, “Craig Werner is one cool cat, bringing together American history, jazz, and revolution.”

Gifts in honor of Craig can be made to the new Craig Werner Odyssey Scholars Fund. This permanent endowment fund will support students enrolled in the Odyssey course, those continuing in college after Odyssey, children enrolled in Odyssey Junior, and students enrolled in Odyssey Beyond Bars.
