An empowering trip on “Odyssey Day”

Madison’s mayor proclaimed October 12, 2022, to be “Odyssey Day” in recognition of our 20 years of changing lives.

Instead of holding a regular Wednesday evening class, the Class of 2023 traveled again by bus to the UW campus, this time joining with hundreds of alumni, supporters, and community members in the Great Hall of the Memorial Union and online for a 20th-anniversary kick-off event called “Amplifying Student Voices and Celebrating Voting.” The event showcased student winners of the biennial “Why Vote?” contest, featured in this issue of the Cap Times. Volunteers from the League of Women Voters and the Madison Public Library provided information and a chance to register to vote.

One highlight of the evening was watching a new film. Just under seven minutes, the film features Odyssey and Odyssey Beyond Bars alumni as well as Odyssey Co-directors Emily Auerbach and Kevin Mullen.
